-----------------------------------------------------

Africans scheduling travels to the South Asia region should be
mindful of the health alert below.

In the wake of the recent South Asia tsunami tidal wave disas-
ter, the United Nations has warned of (looming) epidemics within
days unless health systems in south and Southeast Asia are as-
sisted to cope after thousands of people were killed and tens of
thousands left homeless by giant waves.

"The biggest health challenges faced are the spread of water-
borne diseases, particularly malaria and diarrhoea, as well as
respiratory tract infections," the Red Cross Federation's senior
health officer Hakan Sandbladh said in Geneva, reports CNN.com,
12/27/04.
