Collaborative Efforts on Malaria (2)
------------------------------------
Barend Mons here, in response to the message by Jose Stoute, Who is - I
think - one of the signatories of a letter of interest to the joint call of
the major funding agencies for malaria research.
As most of you probably know, I am organizing, (together with Tom Nchinda)
the follow up meeting in The Hague (8 and 9 July) where these letters will
be on the table and the funding agencies will discuss ways for 'coordinated
investment', as recommended in the DAKAR report.
I think that most malaria researchers are fully aware of this initiative as
it was well-covered by the international press, including a letter and a
six-page article in Nature.
It is obviously premature to talk about possible outcomes of the July
meeting, but I think Jose took a very good initiative to start collecting
expressions of interest on her topic of research via AFRO-NETS. Multi-
centre approaches is what we are looking for in this initiative...
I sincerely hope that more regional networks will emerge through this
initiative and that also non-malaria researchers may join these networks to
generate multi- and interdisciplinary approaches.
Anyone who needs more information can look at the home page of the malaria
foundation:
where links can be found to most organisations involved in this initiative,
including a link to NIAID where the full report of DAKAR can be accessed
and downloaded.
All the best,
Barend Mons
