PROJECT SCOPE ANNOUNCES PPGIS-DISTANCELEARNING-SCOPE, AN OPEN FORUM
FOR DISCUSSION OF THE ISSUES AND APPLICATIONS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION,
DEVELOPMENT AND FUTURE DIRECTION OF GLOBAL ONLINE DISTANCE EDUCATION

Project SCOPE Incorporated, a Boston-based nonprofit developer of
telecenters worldwide to deliver education and training, is pleased
to announce distancelearning-scope, a listserv created to discuss the
issues and challenges involved in the online delivery of distance
education and training programs globally. Recent interest in the Internet
and World Wide Web as viable means of communication and information-sharing
has provided unprecedented opportunities to ensure that education and
training are available for anyone who wants to learn, or wants to teach,
regardless of time, language, location or situation. Acknowledged
advantages to online course delivery are on-demand course availability,
access to education and training institutions globally, cost-effective
program delivery, variety of subject matter and lifelong learning course
availability for all ages.

The objective of the distancelearning-scope listserv is to develop a
forum of global participants including learners, teachers, institutions
and vendors to consider the following:

1) Current availability of online courses with what works or not
2) Technologies or approaches used or proposed with experiences and
   best practices
3) Partnership experiences and development considerations
4) Funding resources and issues
5) Conferences, online discussion groups and fora which consider the
effective proliferation of online course delivery worldwide
6) Various programs and applications which exist to achieve lifelong
   learning
7) Unique programs such as community telecenters, teleworking projects,
delivery of courses to disabled, public housing projects and others
8) Online access issues

Project SCOPE will archive material at:

http://www.projectscope.org

and develop a database of resources generated as a result of the
distancelearning-scope discussions. Thank you for joining us, and we
welcome your participation and your involving others in the listserv
who would benefit from and contribute to the discussion process.

To join distancelearning-scope, send an e-mail message to:

majordomo@igc.org

with the words "subscribe distancelearning-scope" in the message area. Do
not include the quotes, leave the subject line blank and include nothing in
the message except "subscribe distancelearning-scope". If you have any
difficulty, please e-mail me directly for assistance.
