[afro-nets] Evidence identifies the main causes of death among communities living in urban slums in Kenya

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) has released new evidence that identifies the main health conditions accounting for illnesses and deaths among people living in Nairobi's informal settlements. Among children below five years, the main causes of death are pneumonia, diarrhea and stillbirths, which account for 60% of all deaths in this age-group. Among people aged five years and above, AIDS and Tuberculosis are the leading causes of deaths, accounting for 50% of the deaths in this age-group. This evidence is being shared with the Kenyan government and development partners to inform their decisions on issues that need to be prioritized in allocation of resources for them to make a difference in addressing health challenges among poor communities in Nairobi.
