AVSC International is pleased to announce that an international workshop on
"Men as Partners" will be held May 18 - 22, 1997, in Mombasa, Kenya. This
will be the first inter-regional workshop of its kind. In attendance will
be approximately 140 participants from nine African and Asian countries
(Egypt, Eritrea, Ghana, India, Kenya, Pakistan, South Africa, Tanzania and
Uganda) who will share information on reaching and serving men as
reproductive health clients themselves and as partners of female clients.
Among the areas to be addressed are:
- male reproductive health models,
- gender issues,
- funding for men's programs,
- overcoming obstacles,
- outreach strategies, and
- service delivery models
The primary purpose of this four-day meeting is to have country teams -
comprised of eight to ten representatives from each of the nine focus
countries - design a plan for activities and/or programs to improve men's
constructive involvement in reproductive health at home. The country
participants and resource persons will also share their experiences and
research in creating programs for men in reproductive health.
We will be pleased to post a report on the results of this meeting. Stay
tuned!
