New sister conference, ProCOR
-----------------------------
ProCOR, an international electronic conference on emerging cardiovascular
diseases in developing countries, is a collaborative effort between The Lown
Cardiovascular Center and SatelLife. The goal of the conference is to create
a platform for exchanging information and engaging in dialogue related to
cardiovascular health in the developing world.
The answers evolved in coping with cardiovascular disease in the
industrialised North may be inappropriate in addressing the new epidemic in
the South. The essential strategy in the North has been to focus on curative
rather than preventative approaches involving prodigious capital investments
in high technology managed by super specialists. The initiation of ProCOR
therefore assumes an urgency compelled by the burgeoning problem as well as
the danger of focusing on curative rather than preventative approaches.
An Advisory Committee, comprised of representatives from
internationally-recognised institutions from Africa, Asia, Latin America,
Europe and North America, guides the overall direction of the conference.
Moderators will ensure the high scientific quality of the conference and
also post current research and public health information on cardiovascular
diseases.
