AFRO-NETS> Nomination for Jonathan Mann Award

Nomination for Jonathan Mann Award
----------------------------------

Dear Colleagues,

Following the recent announcement for nominations of recipients for
the above award, I would like to nominate (posthumously), the late
Dr. Mathew Lukwiya his fellow health workers at Lacor and Gulu Hospi-
tals in Gulu, Northern Uganda.

Gulu district was the first district in Uganda to have been struck by
the deadly Ebola fever, which had hitherto never been known in Uganda
or indeed the East African region as a whole. Had it not been for Dr.
Lukwiya and his team, many more lives would have been lost to this
deadly disease. Even the WHO experts were astonished to find that by
the time they arrived in Uganda to assist the country deal with the
epidemic, Dr. Lukwiya and his team had already devised specialised
techniques to contain the disease with remarkable results, despite
limited resources.

No doubt, globally a few more lessons have been learnt about Ebola,
as a result of their dedicated work.

One requirement for one nominating a recipient for the award is that,
he/she should also give names, e-mail, phone and fax numbers of two
individuals who can serve as additional references. It is therefore,
in light of this requirement that I send this proposal for anyone out
there, willing to second my nomination of Dr. Lukwiya and his team to
help me.

Regards, and God bless you.
