SEAMEO TROPMED is a Regional Network in Tropical Medicine and Public
Health under the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation.
Its mission is to promote health and to prevent diseases through
training and research, scientific fora, publications and information

nical consultant services.

SEAMEO TROPMED operates through four Regional Centres with speciali-
sations as follows:

- Community Nutrition in Jakarta, Indonesia;
- Microbiology, Parasitology and Entomology in Kuala Lumpur, Malay-
  sia;
- Public Health in Manila, Philippines; and
- Tropical Medicine in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Network offers short-term training courses and academic degree
programmes, facilitates networking and linkages in mutual areas of
concern among individuals and organisations in developed and develop-
ing countries.

An information brochure may be sent to interested parties upon re-
quest.

SEAMEO TROPMED likewise publishes the 'Southeast Asian Journal of
Tropical Medicine and Public Health'. Subscriptions and technical pa-
per contributions are welcomed.

CHASPPAR (Control of HIV/STD/AIDS Partnership Project in the Asia Re-
gion) is a regional co-operation project of SEAMEO TROPMED and the
German Technical Co-operation Agency (GTZ) which focuses on strength-
ening preventive services in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Nepal and the Philip-
pines.

CHASPPAR interphases with other AIDS-related programs under the um-
brella of SEAMEO TROPMED.

CHASPPAR consists of two components namely:

(1) projects complementing the National AIDS Control Program in each
    partner country and

(2) regional activities (training workshops, consultative meetings,
    etc.).

The project is in its second year of operation. Future initiatives
aim to deal with migration and cross-border issues, harm reduction
strategies, policy issues, and community-based care, including promo-
tion and support of self-help group activities.
