Sophia Mukasa Monico from Uganda joins ICASO

Dear Colleagues:
The International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO) is
proud to announce the hiring of Sophia Mukasa Monico from Uganda as
its new Vaccine Policy Coordinator. The position will be based at the
office of the Central Secretariat in Toronto, Canada.
Sophia is currently Executive Director of The AIDS Support Organisa-
tion (TASO) where she has worked since 1995. Sophia will work part-
time on the Vaccine Policy Project from Uganda until her move to To-
ronto in July. Sophia will also make a working visit to Toronto for 2
weeks mid-May.

ICASO will greatly benefit from Sophia's skills and experience.
Sophia is a community advocate and organizer active at local, na-
tional and international levels and vaccine issues have been an im-
portant area of her work. Sophia has advocated for community issues
to the vaccine trials in Uganda, was involved with the Nairobi decla-
ration calling for an African AIDS Vaccine Strategy, has participated
in various committees and meetings on the issue and is a member of
the UNAIDS Vaccine Advisory Committee. Network development has been
another important part of Sophia's work as she was actively involved
in the formation of the Ugandan Network of AIDS Service Organizations
(UNASO), a member of the East African Network, which is affiliated
with AfriCASO.
ICASO is very excited at being able to bring Sophia, with her depth
of experience and commitment, to work with us. We know Sophia will
contribute a great deal to the Vaccine Policy Project and to ICASO
advocacy efforts.
The Vaccine Policy Project has been funded to date by a grant from
the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI).
