Dear Friends,

We are very pleased as to the development of the meeting at the end
of July on the Internet and Prevention. We have decided to hold it at
the National Library of Medicine, as it is here that we have our NIH
grant. In addition Vint Cerf, the father of the Internet and Major
General Randolph, plus others, the Father of Preventive Medicine,
John Last, has also agreed to present.

We owe much to John Last. John was one of the first people to see
what we are doing, and the power of the Internet. John included the
words "Information superhighway" into the Dictionary of Epidemiology
before anyone even heard of it. John just recently provided a beauti-
ful lecture for the Supercourse. We want to have a large amount of
interchange between those engaged in the Internet and those in pre-
vention.

We would very much appreciate if you could suggest people who you
might want to see at the conference, and if you could help us to in-
vite them. Recently we invited George Soros who has been developing
and Internet and health system in Russia. Hopefully he will respond
positively.

Jeff Koplan, the head of CDC presented in our class last week. We
presented about the CDC, then Jeff answered questions over the tele-
phone. It was interesting that this was the first time he had ever
done something like this, and it worked out great. Our students were
very interested in talking with him.

On March 13 a group of us will go to the World Bank to describe the
work that we are doing on the Supercourse. We would like to see if we
could collaborate with their network.

We have just sent another batch of CDs to people who did not receive
the original ones. As indicated before, we hope you enjoy the CDs,
and that you distribute copies of the CDs to everyone you know. It is
also very helpful to have you local Internet or medical group to copy
and distribute the lectures.

Benjamin Acosta from our group is working with Roberto Tapia and
Pablo Kuri for his dissertation. He is mapping out the internet usage
in public health in Mexico which will also serve as a means to track
the internet use over time. You might want to consider developing
something similar in your country. Benjamin will provide to you his
survey if you would like <benja@Pitt.edu>.

We will be presenting in Cuba on April 24-27 on a Bireme/PAHO confer-
ence. We hope to see all of our Cuba friends there. Of the 110 coun-
tries, who are participating in the Supercourse, Cuba is second with
regards to the number of participants.
