[e-drug] Access to Medicines Index 2014 - ARV Licensing

E-DRUG: Access to Medicines Index 2014 - ARV Licensing
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear colleagues,

For World Aids Day, the Access to Medicine Index conducted a short analysis of the licensing practices of the top 20 research-based pharmaceutical companies to assess how they are contributing through licensing to global efforts to combat HIV and AIDS.

Ending the epidemic requires a massive scale up of affordable ARVs, and licensing to generic manufacturers is an important part of this work. Based on this analysis, we find that pharmaceutical companies need to license their ARVs to more generic medicine manufacturers, in more countries (especially more MICs), and earlier in a product's lifespan.

I'll also take this chance to note with thanks the feedback and questions from e-druggers about the 2014 Index we've received so far. We compiled the questions/comments, and will send through one response to the e-drug list shortly.

Cheers,
