E-DRUG: ACT logisitical challenges - individual vs. 'bulk' packaging (2)
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear all,

Morris raises an important issue but overlooked a concern of very significant value as regards the supply chain of ACTs. The costs of packaging ACTs in blisters and worse still in 4 dose regimens raises the 'last mile costs'. I have visited health facilities in the last month and shockingly it is the boxes of ACTs that occupy a greater percentage of the tiny facility stores. At central level, the situation is not any different. However I have a question: Are there any stability issues to note if we go to bulk packs?

E-DRUG: ACT logistical challenges - individual vs. 'bulk' packaging (3)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear all,

I would not want at all to suggest bulk packing of ACTs more so for all consumer packs. Cheap is expensive! Many times professionals have fallen victim if misreporting packaging for the poor without considering that cost is a small component of access. In reality, we need to advocate for cost effective, quality Blister and where necessary strip packages against bulk packages. imagine the unhygienic, humidity, contamination factors in bulk packages

We need to understand both hygienic and environmental factors that affect the quality of medicines. It is worse in a poor settings we find many populations many countries. Access to medicines is a balance of both safety , quality, and affordability and availability. Quality therefore bears a cost for intent and purposes should be factored in improving access without compromising quality.
