E-drug: Crisis in the Australian PBS (cont)
---------------------------------------------
Dear All,

This could become a rather unexpected precedent since for a long time
we have considered and encouraged people to refer to what has been
implemented in Australia with regards to their National Medicines
Policies or elements within the policies. However, in the real world
of the pharmaceutical sector, there are always factors from the real
environment influencing the final decision. Many of these influences
often are beyond technical considerations.

What is worrying is whether what has been happening in Australia will
influence or be replicated elsewhere. Especially when one considers
that there have been a lot efforts from the manufacturers to
influence decision making through regulatory authorities, through
political lobbies, through academias and professional associations to
push the licensing and marketing of a particular product. If such
product was included in the list of PBS, many of us have been rather
concerned if such move will also influence other countries or public
financing scheme.
