E-DRUG: escitalopram vs citalopram ads - new article
---------------------------------------------------
[Best wishes for 2004 to all E-druggers - this year will be the 10th year
for E-drug!

E-druggers might be interested in a paper that I and Peter Mansfield
recently got published:

Escitalopram: superior to citalopram or a chiral chimera? Psychother
Psychosom. 2004 Jan-Feb;73(1):10-6.

In this article we assess the manufacturer's claims that the antidepressant
escitalopram (Cipralex, Lexapro) is more effective and has a faster onset of
action than the parent compound citalopram (Cipramil, Celexa). Citalopram is
off patent in many countries and is about 60% cheaper than escitalopram. We
conclude that the claims of escitalopram's superiority are unwarranted.

The abstract is available in Medline:

Actually there might be an environmental reason for the opposite choice. And
that is less environmental load from excretion. And I wonder about in
general whether or not that choice wouldn't also mean less coursing through
one's system.

Just thinking.
