E-DRUG: Generic drugs in Mexico

E-drug: Generic drugs in Mexico (3)
-----------------------------------

Dear E-druggers,

Thirty six legal suits (out of 46), against article 225 of the
general law of health were rejected. Pharmaceutical companies in
Mexico have been challenging a very mild law that requires the doctor
to include the pharmacologic name of a drug in the prescription. The
physician can write in addition a specific commercial product. The
initial group include only 120 generic drugs, none of them with the
20 year patent rights.
Laboratories say the law is against the free use of commercial names
and they recommend that physicians should decide if they put the generic
name in the prescription.
At this moment the argument of pharmaceutical companies is almost
ridiculous, but in my opinion they are showing strenght and desicion
to resist more severe regulations.
