E-drug: Guidelines for labelling and packaging of medicines ------------------------------------------------------------------------- MCA, The Medical Control Agency, in the UK has issued Best Practice Guidelines for the Labelling and Packaging of Medicines: [http://www.mca.gov.uk/inforesources/publications/bpglabpack.pdf](http://www.mca.gov.uk/inforesources/publications/bpglabpack.pdf) It is meant to be a working document that will be implemented from 1 March 2003. It will be subject to review and re-issued annually. The guidelines are part of the work being undertaken across the Department of Health to meet the target set by the Chief Medical Officer of reducing medication errors by 40% by the year 2005. The document can also be found at my website www.lyftingsmo.no under Regulations and Guidelines. Although (in my opinion) the document is too British, I believe it is of international importance in the improvement of labelling (the labels) of medicines. It points out the medical importance of the label. It demands emphasis on the critical information for handling and for medication. And it recommends user testing of the labels.
