E-DRUG: No. of kind of drugs available in the world

[Here is a challenging question!!]

---------------------------

Challenging also because one needs to specify further:

If "drugs" = number of parmaceutical specialties, there are probably
millions worldwide
(eg acetylsalicylic acid has about 5 (Bayer-)specialties under the original
brand name ASPIRIN, ie
infantile, adult, ASPIRIN+Vit.C, effervescent, chewable..., and then think
of all the generics in all the
different countries)

Or do you just mean the no. of registered active ingredients?
If combination products are included, this makes increase the total no. as
well (think of analgesics,
cold mixtures, flu and fever drugs...

And, how about: vitamins
                     herbal drugs
                     intravenous nutrition

include these or not?

Regards,

Y.Francis

[Why don't we just start with mean the no. of registered active ingredients?
