[e-drug] Pharmaceutical inventory control software (cont'd)

E-drug: Pharmaceutical inventory control software (cont'd)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Great to hear this Gert! Could the people behind INVEC give a
similar update? It would certainly help medical stores in determining
which software solutions are best for them. HH]

Some time ago a posting appeared on E-drug on drug inventory
control systems. Hilbrand Haak wondered where the development of
other systems, like INVEC and SIGMED, are at the moment. I would
like to take this opportunity to present where SIGMED stands.

SIGMED has been in operation at the Phamarcie Populaire du Mali
(PPM) in Mali for 3 years now. In 2002 the system was technically
upgraded and new functionality was added. The software is running
on an SQL Server 2000 database and on most other Windows server
platforms (NT4, W2000, XP).

New functionalities that have been included are:

1. Procurement module: creation of multiple purchase orders and
     shipments;
2. Distribution: default distribution of commodities over Regional
     Warehouses;
3. Multiple currencies;
4. Sales: return of goods
5. Management information: tracking and tracing

In September 2002 we have started with the implementation of this
updated version of SIGMED in Central Medical Stores in Malawi, and
we expect full operationalality by the end of this month. The package
has been customized to the specific needs of this CMS.

Both implementations were carried out by a Consortium of Stoas
GreenWise (Q-Ray) and ETC Crystal, based in Holland. Recent
events have led to the creation of a new company, called MedICT BV,
which mission is to provide quality software solutions and services in
the field of logistics and health in developing countries. Further
information can be provided and a demonstration of SIGMED's
functions is possible.
