Global Health Centre, Graduate Institute of Geneva

PERIOD OF CONTRACT: OCT 2019 - SEPT 2020 (RENEWABLE)
ACTIVITY RATE: 100 %

DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: JUNE 7th 2019

The Global Health Centre (GHC) at the Graduate Institute focuses in its
research on governance in the global health domain. This position is linked
to a five-year research project, 'New Business Models for Governing
Innovation and Global Access to Medicines,' funded by the Swiss National
Science Foundation.

The purpose of this project is to deepen understanding of the political, economic, scientific and organizational factors required to implement new business models of medicines R&D that will deliver both innovation and globally affordable medicines.

In particular, the research project explores the extent to which new approaches to financing, incentivizing, and regulating the pharmaceutical R&D system could produce improved outcomes for global health. Some small-scale efforts at organizing and conducting R&D differently have been implemented and have achieved important successes, but there has been relatively little scholarly
research on these phenomena.

The project is expected to yield findings relevant to health and innovation policy, particularly for governments and philanthropic funders investing in such new business models. It also seeks to contribute to theoretical debates on the processes and politics of technological innovation, disruption in business models, and the role of emerging powers in providing global public goods.

The Post-Doctoral Researcher will lead several case studies for the
project, including conducting background desk research, gathering and
analysing quantitative and qualitative data, including organizing and
conducting interviews with key informants. The Post-Doctoral Researcher
will also contribute to conducting cross-case analysis, writing and
publishing manuscripts, and disseminating research results to academic and
policy/practitioner audiences. S/he will help to supervise, support and
mentor doctoral and/or masters students engaged in the project.

The position provides a full-time salary for a post-doctoral candidate, in
accordance with Swiss national policy. The initial appointment is for
one-year, with the possibility to renew subject to satisfactory
performance. S/he will be supervised by and work closely with the Principal
Investigator, Suerie Moon, Director of Research of the Global Health Centre.

This is a good opportunity for researchers interested in global health,
