Hi
I respect the opinion of Dr Gopal Dabhade who has been doing constructive work in public health.
His punch line quoting Indian Medical Association (IMA)that IMA "rightly recommends that the year 2006 should be the year of the phased withdrawal and ultimate closure of the National Pulse Polio Programme" is premature. Without knowing the scientific basis behind the failure of pulse polio programme in India, how can IMA ask this?
I agree that a fresh look is desired to get the answers, which is eagerly awaited.
Let not any advocacy shift the beneficiaries away from polio vaccination till then. I remember having been taught that we should do no harm to the society, even if we cant benefit it.
Vijay
