E-drug: Re: Vatican promotes access to generic drugs (1)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is wonderful news, which is totally in line with the Catholic's
Church
best and millenary tradition of helping the sick and the poor. I agree
with
Wilbert about the other type of essential drug that the Church should
start
advocating, or at least stop deamonizing.
Let me add something out of line with the usual discussions but in my
view
still relevant to e-drug.
Despite being the largest healthcare organization in the world, the
Catholic
Church by no means represents the majority of people who believe in some
sort
of God or who are part of religious groups. Surely there are non
Catholic
e-druggers who are also believers and belong to other leading religions,
Islam
as an example, with its millions of adepts. There is a huge amount of
charitable work which is part of the ethos of other religions, including
Islamism, Hinduism, Hebraism and many others (as well as among
atheists) but
which is directed only or mainly to the followers of the same religion.
Maybe
religious e-druggers could somehow promote more "ecumenism" in their
religious communities? There are areas in the world where there is only
one
religion but in lots of places there is a mix of religious beliefs and
quite
often there is conflict between the various communities (India just as
one
example). Maybe some positive work could be done in the terms of
unifying
these communities by promoting health initiatives directed to everyone
through
religious leaders? One of the main strengths and beautiful things which
are
part of the Christian ethos is that help and brotherhood should be
extended to
anyone, whatever color of the skin, beliefs, and even morality. I am by
no
means saying that this ethos has been "routinely" followed by Christians
(not
at all! there has been a lot of cruelty delivered by Christians as
well), but
at least this wonderful principle of universality is there.
