# E-DRUG: Safety of norfenefrine in pregnancy

E-drug: Safety of norfenefrine in pregnancy

Dear all

Could somebody please help? I have received a query regarding the  
safety of norfenefrine during pregnancy. Apparantly this is the  
ingredient of Novadral-Retard - a German product. It is being used  
by a German lady presently living in South Africa and was recommended  
by her German doctor for the treatment of hypotension.

Apart from the safety problem, how about efficacy and need?  
Hypotension is diagnosed 300 x more in Germany than in UK! It seems to be  
iatrogenic diagnosis, in my view, as the 'disease' seems not to exist  
in other countries.  
With such a dubious diagnosis, I would not treat a pregnant woman with  
any drug.
