E-drug: Vacancy at Dept Pharmacology, University of Cologne
-----------------------------------------------------------

VACANCY AT
DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY
UNIVERSITY OF COLOGNE, GERMANY

The medical faculty of the university of Cologne is currently
undergoing a process of change in its educational approach.
Problem-based learning (PBL) is gaining more and more importance as
an educational strategy. In the department of pharmacology, the
traditional course of basic pharmacology has recently been replaced
by a PBL course. The course of clinical pharmacology is the next
target for reform.

To organize the change process and to ensure permanent interaction
with other departments, the department has been provided with a
position for a research fellow by the state ministry of education and
science.

The current holder of the position has worked within the department
for two years and has been responsible for the organisational
background of the change process. He has also helped to establish and
maintain other PBL-projects within the faculty and has been active in
the faculty's tutor training programme. Apart from his work in the
educational sector, he was involved with pharmacologic research with
an emphasis on calcium antagonists and their effect on resistance
vessels.

The department of pharmacology is now looking for a successor for the
position described above.

Applicants should have completed their medical degree and have a
general interest in pharmacology. Experience with problem-based
learning, as student or tutor, is required. The position may be
suitable for a doctoral fellowship, a junior house officership
(German "Arzt im Praktikum") or a specialisation in pharmacolgy. The
position is vacant from April or May 98.
