In this role, you will contribute to building our evidence-base, participate in and enlarge our networks and engage (inter)national stakeholders on our policy recommendations.
Your objective? To ensure that everyone, everywhere, has access to the medicines and other pharmaceutical products that meet their medical needs.
About Wemos

Access to medicines
The current system of medicine innovation, production and distribution is not equipped to realise access for everybody. There are system faults in all stages of the pipeline. These lead to scarcity, unnecessarily high prices of medicines and unmet medical needs and as a result cause unacceptable global health inequities, impacting vulnerable people disproportionately and leaving lower income nations behind.

For example, transparency of pricing and Research & Development costs, conditions for public and privately funded innovations, pooling of intellectual property, know-how and technology, and boosting regional manufacturing capacity in low and middle-income countries

We are looking for an analytical, politically engaged and highly motivated
JUNIOR GLOBAL HEALTH ADVOCATE on ACCESS TO MEDICINES
(32-36 HOURS)
What will you be doing?
- Implement the advocacy and lobby strategies of the Access to Medicines programmeÂ
- Stay informed of relevant developments and trends within our field of work
- Contribute to evidence-building and position development through desktop research, fieldwork, analysis and writing
- Keep track of political developments (such as Dutch Parliamentary agenda and debates) and positioning in relation to our strategic goals
- Represent Wemos' position at various advocacy and lobby moment
- Build and maintain relations with policy-makers, members of parliament and other stakeholders on relevant topics
- Contribute to coalition building by attending and giving inputs at alliance meetings both within the Netherlands and globally
- Organise, prepare and execute meetings and roundtable discussions with a variety of stakeholders Â
- Identify new opportunities for lobby and advocacy
- Contribute to fundraising and communication activities
- Provide operational support such as minute-taking
Position in the organisation
You will be part of the Wemos Access to Medicines team (consisting of three other global health advocates and a communication advisor) and report to the senior global health advocate.
What we offer
- A versatile and varied position in a dynamic, informal and international working environment; we work with like-minded organisations in Africa and Europe.
- A small, international team of highly committed and professional colleagues (approximately 30 fte).
- A modern office near the centre of Amsterdam, with good facilities. We have a hybrid set-up, working partially from home.
- A 32-36 hours working week
- A contract for one year, with possibility to extend, pending funding availability
- A competitive gross monthly salary between €2.564 – €2.952 depending on professional experience, based on a 36-hour working week.

Requirements
- Academic working and thinking level
- A firm belief in the right to health and global health justice
- General knowledge of access to medicines within a global health context
- Affinity with issues in low- and middle-income countries
- Affinity with doing research
- Good communication, writing and presentation skills
- Strong planning capacities and able to work with tight deadlines.
- Ability and flexibility to respond to change and ad-hoc situations
- Willing and able to travel globally occasionally
- Fluent in English, written and spoken
- A work permit to work in the Netherlands
What we ask: preferred knowledge and skills
- Knowledge of and experience working in relevant policy areas in the Netherlands, EU, Africa and/or within global health institutions
- Experience of living in a low and middle-income country context
- Technical knowledge of the international access to medicines field, including intellectual property rights
- Knowledge of international policy-making institutions (WHO, EU)
- Research experience, notably policy research and qualitative research skills
