Initiatives on Malaria ... (12)

I fully agree that basic malaria researchers, control people, and fun-
ders (administrators) should work together, as expressed by Jan van 't
Land, Barend Mons and others. I would like to include the category of
applied malaria researchers in this partnership for example the re-
searchers who try to develop environmental measures to control malaria.
This sector is even much more under-funded than basic (molecular biol-
ogy) research on malaria. What seems to be important in view of current
donor priorities is that all disciplines in malaria research, from vac-
cine developers to people focusing on environmental control measures,
are able to explain how their research will directly benefit poor peo-
ple in developing countries.
