[afro-nets] Sixth EDCTP Forum: opening of registration and call for abstracts

The Sixth EDCTP Forum provides an international platform for the presentation and discussion of frontier research for everyone involved in combating the three main poverty-related diseases of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, and the appropriate capacity development and networking activities. The theme of the forum is Strengthening Research Partnerships for Better Health and Sustainable Development, taking into account the past, present and future of EDCTP. This Forum will be held from 9 to 12 October 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. EDCTP is pleased to announce that the Sixth EDCTP Forum registration is now open through the forum website (www.edctpforum.org

Registration opens

All individuals wishing to attend the Sixth EDCTP Forum are encouraged to submit their registrations online. Registration is now open and the online form ensures easy processing of your registration and submission of abstract and scholarship application.

Call for abstracts

The Sixth EDCTP Forum Programme Committee welcomes submission of abstracts for innovative contributions to the field of clinical research. All selected abstracts will be published in the Sixth EDCTP Forum book, which will be distributed to all delegates during the forum.

Abstracts can be submitted in the following categories:

   1. HIV/AIDS

   2. Tuberculosis

   3. Malaria

   4. Cross-cutting issues (including Capacity Development, Networking, Ethics & Regulatory Affairs).

Forum Bursaries

A limited number of individuals especially from sub-Saharan African countries will be sponsored by EDCTP to attend the Sixth Forum. Selection is based individual's ability to present good-quality research in the development of new or improved drugs, vaccines, microbicides and diagnostics against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria; or in other cross-cutting issues related to clinical trials in Africa such as ethics, regulatory affairs, capacity development and networking.

EDCTP Awards to Outstanding African Scientists

EDCTP is now also receiving nominations of potential candidates to receive the EDCTP Awards to Outstanding African Scientists. These awards funded by EDCTP, will recognise outstanding Africans scientists working on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. The awards are open to anyone working in these fields within the scope of EDCTP programme of clinical trials, capacity development, and networking. These awards are granted in recognition of the scientist's achievements within their field whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or breakthroughs have significantly impacted on their own discipline in theory and practise; and who are expected to continue developing in their field in the future.
