[e-drug] Iron-with-Folic Acid tablets

E-drug: Iron-with-Folic Acid tablets
--------------------------------------------
Dear e-druggers,
The most recent (November 1999) meeting of the WHO Expert Committee
to review the WHO Model List of Essential Drugs recommended a
composition of 60mg elemental iron and 400 mcg folic acid for the
above combination product. The change was mainly a two-fold increase
in the folate component.
UNICEF Bangladesh offers a major procurement service to the
Government of Bangladesh in the area of essential drugs and
micronutrients. It is also an
opportunity for working with the Government and the private sector,
whenever possible, to develop a potentially up-and-forward-looking,
albeit basic, local pharmaceutical industry.
We are now in the process of implementing a multi-year procurement
service for "Iron-with-Folic Acid" Tablets but need the necessary
evidence base handy and quickly, to help the National Drug
Administration and Industry in the change decision-making process.

Can someone please assist in locating any pool of relevant
information? We are already in contact with WHO but will appreciate
any other help and comments.

Thank you and best wishes for 2001.
