1 Million bednets project (3)
-----------------------------
When suitable nets are treated and used effectively in Africa,
pyrethroid-impregnated bednets and curtains can substantially
reduce malaria (several projects reduced child mortality by
50% or more)...
We have just re-affirmed this for morbidity in Zimbabwe. And will
present findings in the upcoming Durban conference.
BUT NETS HAVE VERY LITTLE VALUE AGAINST MALARIA UNLESS:
- THEY ARE CORRECTLY TREATED WITH APPROPRIATE INSECTICIDE; -
We saw the same thing:
that not re-treated net users had the same incidence as non-bednet
users.
THE TYPE OF NET IS ACCEPTABLE FOR EFFECTIVE USE CONSISTENTLY; -
PEOPLE STAY UNDER THE TREATED NETS EVERY NIGHT, ALL NIGHT.
We can also confirm that.
