About database sustainability
-----------------------------
Dear Sandee Minovee and the PHNIP team, and AFRO-NETS Colleagues
The PHNIP team has put together a database about population,
health and Nutrition: http://www.phnip.com/. I asked almost a
year ago about linking the information in this database with the
costs associated with improving any of the indicators being
documented. A number of observers and experts in development
would like to have this information, because it could help im-
prove the management of scarce development resources. But so far
I do not see any movement to pick up on this and get it done.
And now another issue arises. The database has been developed
under a 5 year USAID project that may well end in a year or two
or maybe three. What are the arrangements that are in place so
that the value of this database effort is maintained and not
simply "junked" at the end of the project?
Sincerely,
Peter Burgess
