Ps: my apologies for cross posting.
Dear Colleagues,
I wanted to bring to your attention that November 1, 2007 is African Youth Day. The theme of this year's celebration is: Youth-adult partnership for sustainable development.
The African Youth Day was declared in July 2006 in Banjul by African Union Heads of State and government, as part of the official endorsement of the African Youth Charter. The year 2008 was also declared as the year of the African Youth. The celebration of the African Youth Day is an opportunity to bring attention to the African Youth Charter and to encourage our governments to sign and ratify the charter.
In this light, a number of possible activities have been suggested to all governments in the African Union as follows:
v Official signing of the Charter
v Dialogue Forum between the Minister and youth organizations;
v Dialogue Forum between the Parliamentarians and the youth;
v Dialogue/Exchange between rural and urban youth;
v National and regional workshops to present the African Youth Charter, the plan of action of the Ministry in charge of youth in order to accelerate the signature ratification and implementation of the Charter;
v Translation of the African Youth Charter in national languages;
v Establishment of National Youth Award, based on contests on Posters, on Video and audiovisual clips to publicize the African youth Charter, contests on written or audiovisual reporters on the living conditions of the youth or youth initiatives;
v Cultural Festival for the popularisation of the African Youth Charter;
v Special delivery from the Head of State addressing the Youth, highlighting their place and role in the society and promoting the African Youth Charter
I encourage colleagues to mobilise and organise around the day and I will be glad to answer any concerns as necessary. My contact information is: dabesaki@gmail.com.
