AHILA-10: CONGRESS UPDATE
Preparations for the 10th AHILA Congress to be held in Mombasa, Kenya, 23rd-27th October, 2006, are progressing well.
Theme: Millennium Development Goals and Health Information Provision in Africa
Sub-themes: ICTs and Health Information in the 21st Century
Harnessing Health Information for Poverty Alleviation
Documentation and Repackaging of Health Information
Marketing of Health Information Resources
Information Literacy for Health in Africa
Abstracts continue to be received. The abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Sub-Committee by the end of June. The authors of those selected for presentation will be notified shortly thereafter by official invitation letters.

Registration: The Congress Registration form may be downloaded from the website. The registration fee entitles you to attend all conference sessions, conference materials, welcome cocktail and conference dinner. The registration fee does not include accommodation. The Pre-registration fee (before August 31st 2006) is US$120. Registration after August 31st 2006 is US$140.
Registration will only be effective once payment has been received by Ken-AHILA. For this purpose please use our bank as per the details listed below. The bank will accept payment by Visa and Mastercard credit cards only.

Venue: The Sun n Sand Beach Resort has been chosen as the congress venue (http://www.sunnsand.co.ke). The cost of a room full board per night will be KShs.4,500 (approx. US$65). The cost of a room half-board per night will be KShs.4,000 (approx. US$58).
Health insurance: Participants are responsible for the costs of their own health insurance and vaccinations. The only inoculation requirement is for Yellow Fever. Malaria prophylaxis is desirable. The AHILA-10 Local Organizing Committee may be more than happy to assist you to locate relevant support organizations but will not be responsible for covering the costs of ill-health or accidents.
Visas: Participants are responsible for the costs of visas & airport taxes. You will need a valid passport and visa to enter Kenya. Nationals of the following African countries do not require a visa for Kenya:
Botswana, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Nationals of other countries need a visa. It is always a good idea to obtain your visa before you leave your country.
Climate: The weather in October is expected to be warm but it may turn cool in the evenings. The temperature drops with an increase in altitude. The short rains usually begin in November.
