The African Malaria Vaccine Testing Networks <http://www.amvtn.org>
is an institution established in 1995 whose major objective is to co-
ordinate the planning and execution of malaria vaccine trials in Af-
rica. The Network has a vacant position of Clinical Trials Coordina-
tor.

Qualifications:

MD degree with MSc, M.Med. or preferably PhD in epidemiology, commu-
nity health, paediatrics, tropical medicine, communicable diseases,
biostatistics or similar areas. Knowledge of computer literacy and
ICH/GCP are essential. Familiarity with health research ethics issues
in African settings is desirable.

Experience:

At least ten years of postgraduate experience that must include
evaluation of new tools for the control or prevention of disease
agents. Experience in research supervision/management would be an ad-
vantage. Proven experience in research fund mobilization and manage-
ment is desirable.

Duty Station:
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Terms of employment:
Initially on 50% basis.

Duties and responsibilities:
* Coordinating intervention trials at trial sites in eastern, south-
  ern and western African institutions.
* Designing of study instruments for various phases of the trials in
  collaboration with trial sites and other researchers.
* Supervising needs assessment and site characterization.
* Participating in capacity strengthening at study sites.
* Travelling frequently to all study sites.
* Monitoring on going activities at study sites.
* Assisting the Chairman cum Coordinator as is necessary.
* Representing the Chairman at scientific and administrative meet-
  ings.
