ARYI-TIG-AIESEC Internship Program (call for participants)
----------------------------------------------------------
Dear all,
African Regional Youth Initiative (ARYI) and the TakingITGlobal
HIV/AIDS Program (TIG) have been working with AIESEC Interna-
tional on formulating a unique internship program that will
start in December 2004 with a 6-month pilot program in South Af-
rica.
The program would then be fully implemented in other countries
in Africa. The pilot program will consist of foreign and local
volunteers, who will work with local organizations to gain
first-hand experience about working at the community level. This
program also has added components, including engagement in youth
policy work and leadership training in order to build the capac-
ity of youth to spearhead activities in their communities and to
create positive change.
The internship opportunities will serve to foster international
cooperation, cross-cultural understanding and youth leadership.
AIESEC International has experience in planning and implementing
exchanges/internships since 1953. ARYI plans and implements pro-
grams across the continent with over a hundred youth organiza-
tions in Africa addressing HIV/AIDS, and is organized at the na-
tional and regional levels. There would be an ICT component
through the use of an electronic platform provided by the Tak-
ingITGlobal HIV/AIDS Program. Both TIG and ARYI have demon-
strated an extensive ability to develop an international network
of organizations.
In addition to working within organizations, interns will have
the opportunity to gain leadership skills through the implemen-
tation of forums that address leading issues within the commu-
nity.
The internship program will also continue the work of the Youth
Policy Group (YPG), a group that was established in May 2004 by
ARYI and is operating in eight African countries. The mission of
the YPG is to inform, inspire, and mobilize African youth in or-
der to (1) bridge the gap between policy and its implementation,
and (2) promote and advocate for reproductive health policies
and programs in Africa.
If you are a member of an organization in South Africa working
on leadership and governance, women's rights, education, infor-
mation and communications technology (ICT), economic and social
development, poverty, child and reproductive health, and
HIV/AIDS, and are interested in participating in the pilot pro-
gram, please contact us at mailto:aiesec_aryi@yahoo.com by Sept.
20, 2004.
A meeting is planned to take place in South Africa in October
2004 to meet with all organizations in South Africa interested
in the pilot program.
Thank you,
Liz Livelli
