ARSRC Visiting Fellows Programme

The Africa Regional Sexuality Resource Centre (ARSRC) is a regional project of Action Health Incorporated supported by The Ford Foundation and dedicated to creating a better understanding of human sexuality in Africa.

The ARSRC's work is directed at
a. Expanding and shaping discourse, thinking and action in favour of healthy, respectful, responsible and pleasurable sexuality;
b. Nurturing and building professional capacity in the field of sexuality; and
c. Building links between kindred organizations and individuals working on sexuality issues in Africa.

In pursuance of its mandate, the ARSRC is pleased to announce its 2007-2008 Visiting Fellows Programme.

Programme Goal and Description

The Visiting Fellows Programme has been established to further the ARSRC's commitment to increase Africa-focused research and publications on sexuality, issues, as well as, build links between scholars and practitioners working in this area in Africa.

During the 2007-2008 phase, ARSRC will offer up to 4 (four) residential fellowships and this four to six-month fellowships will be based at the ARSRC's office in Lagos, Nigeria.

Visiting fellows will be expected to:
1. Contribute to the building of knowledge through critical thinking and research; and
2. Facilitate information and knowledge dissemination through seminars and publications.

During their stay at the Regional Centre, fellows will review several ARSRC materials, make at least two presentations and complete two publishable papers focusing on conceptual, contextual or methodological issues in the field of sexuality.

Sponsorship Details

The sponsorship covers the fellow's (not including dependants) roundtrip, economy airfare and/or ground transportation, single-room accommodation, health insurance and a monthly stipend of $1,800 to cover living expenses, supplies, communication and local transportation costs.

Each fellow will also be provided office space, equipped with a computer and unlimited web access, as well as, access to the ARSRC's well-stocked sexuality library.

Eligibility:

Applicants for the Visiting Fellows Programme should:
* Possess a PhD or academic equivalent in the Social Sciences or Humanities;
* Have a track record in research and publication on sexuality issues in Africa; and
* Be African nationals, residing in Africa at the time of application for the fellowship

Application Procedure:

Interested applicants should submit a formal application and provide the following materials electronically:
1. A two-page statement of interest describing the applicant's research interest and its significance for advancing theory, policy or programming for sexuality
2. A workplan indicating the preferred starting date and desired duration of the fellowship as well as outlining the deliverables for the fellowship period.
3. A current C.V. detailing research experience, academic qualifications and contact details of 3 referees.
4. Two letters of reference (to be sent directly by the referees to opportunities@actionhealthinc.org.

Applications will be reviewed as they come during the year and the first fellow selected will begin in July 2007. Only short listed candidates will be contacted. To receive timely consideration, inquires and applications must be received at least three months in advance of the proposed starting date of the fellowship
