Arts-based sexual and reproductive health work in South Africa
--------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,
I am doing a PhD in Applied Theatre at the University of Manchester, UK, researching as to whether participation in performance forms such as drama, dance, song, puppets, and music, could impact upon the social communication between members of a community and whether or not this has a long-term influence on the community's sexual and reproductive health.
As part of my research I am planning a research trip to South Africa in April (April 12th to May 7th). I would like to observe and follow the work of arts-based SRH practitioners and projects as part of my case study. I was wondering if you knew of any projects and organisations who do such work and if you wouldn't mind telling me about them. Unfortunately, due to time constraints I am only able to visit Jo'burg and Cape Town.
I have recently launched my website, detailing the focus and aims of my research (part of which is mapping arts-based projects globally) so please have a look: www.ourplaceourstage.net If you would like more information on the project. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like more information.
Thank you in advance for your time.
Best wishes,
Katharine
