Cholera and Malaria Epidemics (2)
---------------------------------

Dear Amady Keita,

We never move into a new field of disease control without thorough and
proper tests, and the approval of the cholera filter has been conducted
by Maryland University. This university has a long tradition and record
of working with cholera. We have a long record of working with filter
materials, like filters for guinea worms, schistosomiasis and other in-
testinal parasites. The combination of knowledge has produced the chol-
era filter, but we have not tested the filter on people in the process.
It was only used by humans when we knew it worked.

The problem of clogging, as you mention, is a problem we are used to
solve with guinea worm filters, and which has also been dealt with sat-
isfactorily for the cholera filter.

The advantage of our cholera filters is that you give one filter once a
year to each household. Can you imagine anyone being able to do any-
thing similar with treatment tablets? Would any MoH or NGO know what a
household would consume of treatment tablets over a year? Have you ever
heard of any household which has been given a years tablets? Can you
imagine the costs of buying and transporting the amount of tablets?

I will find your personal e-mail and send our testing results, as I
feel it will be too much for this general list. Anyone else interested
in seeing our testing results are welcome to have them sent directly.

Best regards,

TORBEN
