Community involvement in Health Programmes
------------------------------------------

Colleagues,

Have we lost or are we about to lose the conceptual foundations of
community involvement in health programmes in Africa? With the initial
political zest and rhetorics on support which initially greeted the
concept subsiding and focus on changing disease patterns, is it possible
that interest in the socio-economic and cultural conditions that
predispose Africans to poor health as the motivation for community
involvement in health programmes is equally waning? If not can we bring
back emphasis on poverty, and the role of community involvement in
managing poverty as the compelling motivations for community
involvement in health programmes?

I like to hear your views on this matter.
