Hi all,
There is a Kiswahili saying, which goes like this "Fimbo iliyo
mkononi ndiyo iuwayo nyoka", literally means "It is the stick
you have in hand that kills a confronting snake". I can't agree
more to this saying, in what regards HIV prevention through con-
dom use. The only 99 percent sure stick we have to hit the HIV
snake is the condom. Abstinence is, to me at least, utopic. I do
not even believe in the statistics of 60% success. How was this
determined? I do not imagine there was ever a "controlled"
clinical study carried out on abstinence and HIV infection.
Would such a study be possible/reliable anyways??? I'd wish to
have a design of such a study if it exists.
