Conference "Medicine and Research in the Tropics"

The Medical Research Council Laboratories - The Gambia celebrate their 50th
anniversary with a Jubilee Meeting in collaboration with the Ministry of
Health - The Gambia.
Topics of morning sessions are:
- Malaria
- Tuberculosis
- HIV/AIDS
- Reproductive Health
- Non-communicable diseases
- Nutrition
Afternoon round-table discussions will deal with the following topics:
- Have bednets failed?
- DNA vaccines make all others obsolete
- Population growth is out of control
- Treatment of HIV/AIDS in Africa
- Nutritional supplementation is not the answer
- Eradication of infections (measles, tuberculosis) eliminate the need for
basic research
- Human genome research has no relevance in Africa
- Mass treatment strategies are flawed
- Changing people's behaviour is an impossible goal
- Spread of drug resistant organism is inevitable
- Where next for research institutes?
Abstracts for oral presentations and posters are invited.
