Diabetes is global threat - Africa inclusive?
---------------------------------------------
The number of people in the world with diabetes is expected to
more than double by 2030, and India, China and the USA will top
the list of countries with the most cases, a report says today.
Researchers estimate that 366 million people, or 4.4% of the
world's population, will be diabetic by 2030; that's up from 171
million, or 2.8% of the population, in 2000. Obesity and lack of
exercise are risk factors for diabetes, as are age, ethnicity
and family history. Source: USA Today. April 25, 2004.

Are there comprehensive population-based surveys that have ad-
dressed the public health burden of diabetes in different Afri-
can countries? Appreciate feedbacks.
