[afro-nets] Elizabeth's Unite For Sight Story in Ghana

Dear Friend of Unite For Sight,

Imagine years of visual impairment brought to an end by a 15-minute surgery. Give the gift of sight this holiday season <http://www.uniteforsight.org/give> to children and adults who are otherwise unable to access or afford care.

In a rural village in Ghana, Elizabeth became completely blind from cataracts while a teenager. For years, Elizabeth's family could not afford cataract surgery. As a result of her blindness, she dropped out of school and could not pursue her planned training to become a dressmaker.

Elizabeth's family learned about a Unite For Sight-supported Crystal Eye Clinic outreach program in a village 30 minutes away from her home. Ghanaian optometrist Ernest Awiti examined Elizabeth, and she was diagnosed with bilateral cataracts. After five years of blindness, Elizabeth just recently had sight-restoring cataract surgery in one eye by Ghanaian ophthalmologist Dr. James Clarke, and the surgery was fully supported by Unite For Sight. Elizabeth is thrilled to have regained her independence. She will have surgery in her other eye in January, and then she plans to return to school and continue pursuing her goals and a career.

We don't get to tell stories like Elizabeth's often enough. 80% of blindness is preventable or treatable, and 31 million people are needlessly blind. With your generous support, we can bring sight to 2,000 more people this holiday season who are currently blind from cataracts. By sponsoring sight restoration for patients like Elizabeth in Ghana, India, and Honduras, your donation will help end the needless blindness of so many who cannot afford this life-changing surgery. No amount is too small to help us reach our goal of raising $100,000 during December.

This holiday season, give the gift of sight <https://maestropay.com/uniteforsight/give>\. You may also donate as a gift to a family member or friend, and we'll provide you with a certificate to present to your loved one.

Unite For Sight is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. 100% of all funds donated to Unite For Sight provide eye care for patients living in poverty. Learn more about our leading financial model <http://www.uniteforsight.org/what-we-do/financial-model>\.
