Epidemiology, the Internet and Global Health
--------------------------------------------
Scientists world-wide are establishing an Internet based course on Epi-
demiology, the Internet and Global Health. The Supercourse is targeted
towards telepreventive medicine, the application of the Internet to
epidemiology and the prevention of disease, and is designed to train
health professionals.
The faculty consists of over 500 experts in public health, clinical
medicine, and Internet technology from more than 50 different coun-
tries. The course currently has 29 lectures available at:
and more than 85 individuals from around the world have offered to
write various lectures. A local instructor can decide to use one of the
lectures, some of the lectures, or all of the lectures. The lectures
can serve as a course unto themselves, or can supplement existing
courses, in epidemiology or other disciplines. Each lecture includes
hypertext links that lead to information in other lectures or to infor-
mation at other sites on the web. In addition, each lecture is "peer
reviewed" by a minimum of 5 reviewers and then revised. There are also
several online texts available for use with the course. 'Statistics at
Square 1', 'Epidemiology for the Uninitiated', 'Introduction to the
Internet', and 'How to Read a Paper' have all been provided for free by
the British Medical Association. Finally, the lectures will be trans-
lated into other languages. The first lecture is currently available in
Japanese, Spanish, Chinese, German, Turkish, Portuguese, and French.
If you are interested in participating in this project either by:
