Factors Affecting Health Research in Africa (5)
--------------------------------------------------------

Dear Renuka,

I fully support your views on this subject and commend SARA's efforts. I
want to make a suggestion regarding the issue on "the need for transforming
research results into useful formats through syntheses, policy briefs,
recommendations, etc) and that this process takes considerable investment
in skills, time, and resources". In view of SARA's ongoing efforts in this
field, could it (SARA) spearhead an initiative to bring a consortium of
donors together to create a fund that would be used to bridge this gap and
respond to this clearly identified need in Africa? The use of such a fund
would include both the capacity building in skills for the above, and
"research to policy analysis", as well as support the dissemination and
advocacy implementation. I believe this would complement or strengthen the
efforts SARA is already making.

Steve
