---------------------------------------------------
Dear Partner,
You are invited to join the 'Accelerating Prevention' eForum
<http://www.safaids.org.zw/> Southern Africa HIV and AIDS Information and Dissemination Service (SAfAIDS) with support from the <http://www.unaids.org/> Joint United Nations Program on HIV and AIDS
(UNAIDS) are delighted to announce the launch of the new, time-limited electronic discussion forum (eForum), 'Accelerating Prevention'. <http://www.hdnet.org/> Health and Development Networks (HDN) is providing technical support to the eForum.
The discussion on Accelerating Prevention eForum shall be running for six months from Monday, 30 April to October 2007. The current discussions on the need to design appropriate HIV prevention interventions for sub-Saharan Africa present a unique opportunity for launching a dialogue around prevention-related issues. Targeting stakeholders in Eastern and southern Africa, the Accelerating Prevention eForum will discuss pertinent HIV prevention issues that will inform programme design and implementation across the region.
Accelerating Prevention is a new regional, time-limited electronic discussion forum (eForum) aimed at stimulating lively exchange and constructive dialogue on topical HIV prevention issues in Eastern and southern Africa.
Accelerating Prevention eForum aims to:
* create a platform for people in Eastern and southern Africa to share knowledge, skills and experiences in prevention
* promote advocacy, partnerships and networking at both national and sub-regional levels
Member contributions and comments on the following six themes of Accelerating Prevention are particularly encouraged:
1. Key drivers of the epidemic (including condom use and concurrent partnerships)
2. Role of men in prevention (including male circumcision)
3. Prevention for young people
4. Role of 'classical' STI treatment in HIV prevention
5. Prevention from the perspective of PLHIV (including positive prevention)
6. Strategic condom programming
Following this discussion, a summary will be prepared that captures the highlights of all contributions and all contributors will be duly acknowledged. The summary will be published by SAfAIDS in hard copy as well as CD-Rom versions.
