GLOBAL HEALTH COUNCIL, UNAIDS AND USAID CO-SPONSOR INTERNATIONAL
TRACK AT US CONFERENCE ON AIDS

The Global Health Council, the Joint United Nations Programme on
HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and the US Agency for International Development
(USAID) are co-sponsoring the second-ever international HIV/AIDS con-
ference track at the US Conference on AIDS November 4 - 8 in Denver,
Colorado. The International Track at the US Conference on AIDS will
provide individuals and organizations with an excellent opportunity
to build and strengthen linkages between US and international AIDS
service organizations.

This year's conference, entitled "Working Together", is the largest
annual AIDS conference held in the US, and will be attended by more
than 3,500 delegates working on HIV/AIDS prevention, care, policy,
advocacy and research around the US. Highlights of the conference
will include two international plenaries featuring Dr. Peter Piot,
Executive Director, UNAIDS; US Surgeon General David Satcher; Rep.
Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL); representatives from Africa, Asian and
Latin American/Caribbean networks of people living with HIV/AIDS; and
a handful of mayors from Africa, who will be participating in the
conference through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Over 15 international HIV/AIDS workshops will take place throughout
the duration of the conference, addressing issues such as global ac-
cess to treatment and care; the impact of the pandemic on children,
women, men and communities around the world; and advocacy for build-
ing stronger global political commitment to a world without AIDS.
Countries such as Brazil, Nigeria, Thailand, South Africa, Philip-
pines, the Dominican Republic, Ghana and Uganda will participate in
the International Track and in the conference as a whole.
