Health Cards (29)
-----------------
Hi
I am working as Head of Health Information in the Mpumalanga Health
Department (one of the provinces of South Africa). I haven't been
contributing because I am too busy trying to establish a proper
functioning District Health Information System, as well as Hospital
Information Systems.
We have just had a workshop with our District Health Information
Officers, facilitated by Dr Arthur Heywood (Public Health Programme,
University of Western Cape - he has had extensive experience in this
field in countries such as Ghana, and Zimbabwe). We have just designed
a new clinic register replacing several other forms and registers, to be
piloted in a number of clinics across the province.
We also have a committee in the province working on clinical patient
records, and very shortly we will have to decide whether to go for only
a patient-retained record or whether we need a clinic-based patient
record. Some of our nurses say our Nursing Council will not allow us to
have no individual clinic-based patient records. To me there appears to
be little point to have both clinic and patient based records, as you
then again have duplicate paper work for nurses!
Comments, please.
