[afro-nets] HIV Stigma Toolkit available for download

HIV Stigma Toolkit available for download
-----------------------------------------

Dear AFRO-NETS members,

SARA would like to share the following publication on HIV
stigma, available in English and French.

The shame and embarrassment associated with HIV/AIDS (stigma)
has greatly inhibited access to the continuum of HIV/AIDS pre-
vention, care, and treatment services. Unfortunately, there is a
paucity of materials addressing HIV/AIDS stigma interventions.

In 2003, the CHANGE project developed a toolkit for action enti-
tled "Understanding and Challenging HIV Stigma" (Comprende et
Contrer: Le Stigmate Du VIH). The toolkit is designed for NGOs,
community groups, and HIV educators to raise awareness and pro-
mote practical actions to challenge HIV stigma and discrimina-
tion. The toolkit is based on research by International Center
for Research on Women (ICRW) on the causes, dynamics, and conse-
quences of stigma and features activities and exercises devel-
oped in workshops in Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Zambia, including
ones that focus on children and HIV/AIDS stigma. In 2005, the
SARA project translated and produced a French version of the
toolkit.

The toolkit is available electronically and can be downloaded at:
http://sara.aed.org/sara_pubs.htm (under the HIV/AIDS category).

Download as Adobe PDF file (188 pp. 7.5 MB!) at:
