HIV testing without treatment? (16)
-----------------------------------

Thank you, Nonhlanhla, for you comments (thread #10) regarding my
proposed pilot study to do confidential HIV testing of antenatal pa-
tients (thread #8). Your points are well taken. One thing that can be
done without monetary resources is to provide emotional support. Re-
garding providing nutrients and treatment for opportunistic infec-
tions, if these are inadequate, the study can serve to document the
unmet needs and be an impetus for a pilot project to meet the needs.
As I see it, this is one of the advantages of a small pilot study. If
something can be shown to work, it can serve as a model. I am hoping
that "The ideal that is neither available nor accessible to this type
of community" can become a reality when it is well documented. I will
keep my ear to the ground for community input at every step.
