Initiatives on Malaria ... (4)
------------------------------
Thanks Ole for your remarks about the Tanzania BedNet project:
Recently I have had reports from colleagues in Bagamoyo that the re-
volving funds are still in place and that the village committees were
still interested in continuing the work. There was a problem when the
Malaria Officer was transferred elsewhere and no new person was ap-
pointed, so the monies could not be drawn for some months, however this
was a misunderstanding of the District Medical Officer who was not in-
formed about the project rules. He then appointed a Malaria Officer
from within his own staff, and I believe the problem has been solved.
There is concern now that supplies on replacement nets are unavailable,
and the solution of those concerns are with the people at Muhimbili
Medical Centre now. When I saw them in September, they were expecting
to continue overall surveillance with some assistance from the Canadian
IDRC.
