-------------------------------------------------------

6-8 December, 1999
Maastricht, The Netherlands

The European Journalism Centre, an independent, mid-career training
institute based in Maastricht, the Netherlands, is organising a
three-day Internet workshop entitled 'Covering Africa from your desk-
top'.

This Internet workshop has been tailor-made for journalists and in-
formation officers from NGOs and lobby groups dealing with African
issues. The aim of the workshop is to show participants how to use
the Internet as a powerful journalistic and research tool on African
affairs. The trainer for the event, Kammy Naidoo, a media and infor-
mation technology consultant in South Africa, will guide participants
to the most relevant information available on the Internet using lo-
cal and external sources of information. Also attending as guest
speakers are Anuradha Vittachi from OneWorld and Gerald Messiaen from
the European Commission, Development Directorate-General.

Thanks to the financial support of the European Commission we are
able offer participation in the seminar at a reduced price of 400
Euro which covers: tuition fee, three nights accommodation in Maas-
tricht, lunches and one dinner. In addition, we will reimburse 50 per
cent of your travel expenses to a maximum of 225 Euro. The full pro-
gramme for the event is available on the EJC website:
